Madrid has launched a public transport solution designed specifically for tourists visiting the city. The new Tourist Transport Card (Tarjeta Turística de Transporte Público) offers unlimited travel across Madrid’s metro, bus, light rail, and commuter train network, with prices starting at just €10 ($11.78) for a one-day pass. Visitors can now explore Madrid’s iconic landmarks with unprecedented ease and affordability.

According to The Local, the card comes with flexible validity options ranging from 1 to 7 days. This flexibility allows tourists to tailor their transport needs to their specific itinerary and duration of stay in the Spanish capital. The cards activate on the first journey and remain valid until 5 a.m. on the last day, giving travelers late-night flexibility after dinners, theatre visits, or rooftop cocktails.

Coverage That Actually Fits How You Travel

Starting at just €10 for Zone A (covering the entire city of Madrid), the card provides complete freedom to use Madrid’s extensive metro system, bus network, light rail line ML1, and commuter trains without restriction during the chosen time period. For travelers planning to venture beyond the city limits, the Zone T option extends coverage to the entire Community of Madrid for slightly higher prices, starting at €15 ($17.67) for one day.

Both options include metro rides to and from Madrid Barajas Airport at no extra cost, making them particularly valuable for travelers arriving by air. The cards are readily available at multiple convenient locations. Visitors can make purchases at airport terminals T1, T2, T3, and T4, at all metro stations, at the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium offices at Sol and Atocha, and at select tobacconists and authorized retailers.

What These Added Benefits Mean For Travelers In Madrid

Madrid’s new transport card is also integrated with broader tourism initiatives. Euro Weekly News reports that the Tourist Transport Card is part of the Madrid City Card, which combines unlimited transport with discounts at museums and attractions throughout the capital.

Holders enjoy 10-50% discounts at top attractions such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Faro de Moncloa viewpoint, and the Atlético Madrid stadium tour. Several museums offer free entry with the card, including the History Museum of Madrid, the Temple of Debod, and the Contemporary Art Museum.

For families traveling with children, there’s an additional benefit: half-price tickets for children under 11. When the validity period expires, visitors can easily reload their cards at machines, stations, or via the official Tarjeta Transporte app, which allows them to recharge their cards with new tourist passes, single tickets, or ten-trip passes.
